This piece is one of the rare cases where I lost all patience with my oils and just finished the piece digitally. I was really fighting with that magic effect for some reason and so I basically had to decide between my pride and my sanity. "Extinguish", oil/digital
And this one was kind of a strange assignment, it's actually a portrait of a guy who (I'm told) won a WoW tcg championship and one of his prizes was to have his likeness included as a hero character in the next set of cards. It was a bit of a challenge since the only photos of the guy were flash-lit promo pics from gaming events but it was fun none the less.

These are wonderful. I'm thrilled to have come across your blog recently, and I'm enjoying going back through your work. Thanks for posting these!ReplyDelete
I just had similar experience having to do digital with some parts with a WoW piece. It's a weird thing-the reluctance to go digital with a piece started in oils. I thought it was just me being luddite.ReplyDelete
Excellent job on both, especially with the portrait. You think they'd have supplied you with a better photo.
Chris!!! You are out of control.....you're killing me.....ReplyDelete
^^^ I second what Tyler said. haha... Good god these are fantastic.ReplyDelete
Too many updates too quickly...ReplyDelete
brain slowly being overloaded with awesome sauce.
Very very nice. Is there a chance that you'll eventually make some sort of step by step thing to show how you pull this off?ReplyDelete
These are both amazing. One thing about digital... it's good for super high contrast magical effects! And I think when that TCG champ sees his badass portrait.. he'll be the happiest nerd in nerdlington!ReplyDelete
I love the atmosphere you create in your pieces, as if the air is really thick. Makes you feel like you want to be there.ReplyDelete
