Charlie Chan 5 & 6

These are the last two covers for the Charlie Chan series, hot off the easel. The publisher was really focused on maintaining a retro feel so I tried to make them as pulpy as possible, plus I finally had an excuse to buy a vintage suit jacket and a real, though nonfunctional, Saturday Night Special.

  1. That top one is especially gorgeous man, smart use of shadow and light! And a fun composition to boot.

  5. Nope :) The publisher seemed to want to focus more on the crimes and the clues than on Charlie. I suspect it's because Charlie is described as being pretty...husky, so he may not have looked like enough of a 'classic' hero. Just a guess though.
