Mikaeus, the Unhallowed

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, 12 x 16 in., oil on masonite

Here's my last painting for the latest Magic: the Gathering set. He's a follow-up to Steve Belledin's awesome piece; Mikaeus, the Lunarch. This time he's shown busting out of his tomb, soon after his death.

I really got a kick out of this one, I'm not sure why exactly but it wound up being one of those rare pieces (at least for me) that came together fairly easily and the final product was actually pretty dern close to what I'd originally envisioned (Not to mention the fact that getting the chance to paint what's basically a zombie pope was almost too good to be true).

  5. Came together easily, huh? Interesting contrast to how much I struggled with the Lunarch piece. This is among the paintings I plan on stealing when I break into your house.

  6. Okay then I will steal it from your house after you've stolen it from Chris's house. Stealing is fun!

    Awesome painting Chris.

  7. Thanks everyone!

Steve - Beware, my studio is guarded by attack-cats (big fat ones).

  8. I'll leave a trail of cat treats that lead to a trap to disable them momentarily and give me JUST enough time to steal this...This painting is so damn boss. Also, Steve, may the best thief win... just like in Ocean's 13... (I'll obviously portray Clooney in this rendition)

  10. This is a really wonderful piece. I love the design and it leads the viewer in creating a world outside of the character. So nice!
