Pride Guardian

Here's another new one for the upcoming Magic: the Gathering set. I usually try to avoid symmetrical compositions but in this case I thought it kind of added to stoic/righteous vibe of the piece (btw, it was originally called Guardian Monk, hence the monastic robes, door, etc).

Pride Guardian, 11 x 14 in., oil on masonite

  2. Righteous! I love the gold halo effect.

I rarely see problems with your anatomy, but you've got the pectoralis inserting underneath the biceps. It should go over the biceps and attach to the humerus beneath the deltoid.

  3. Then again, it's also a humanoid cat.

  5. Thanks guys!

Good catch Jonathan (Mayer) - I was making an attempt to combine the two anatomies and reconcile the differences. Since cat's pectoral muscles reach down to the elbow (basically replacing the bicep) I thought it would be interesting to hint that the attachment on this guy was lower down the arm and it didn't feel right when I tried to do that with a pec that laid over the bicep. This is definitely a case of artistic license winning out over accuracy.

  9. I remember someone taking Jarvis to task one time over werewolf anatomy. I, personally, don't see the point of arguing the anatomy of werewolves or any fictional creatures for that matter. It just has to feel right, nothing more. If you've succeeded in doing that, I think you've done a lot better than most are capable of.

And in this expert's opinion, you've managed that and then some. I deem that you continue to be worthy of stealing *ahem* borrowing from. As always, a nice piece.

Why don't you go club some baby seals or something so I can hate you?
